Barcelona receives for the third year the prize for the best destination of congresses and meetings
For the third time in four years, the World Travel Awards have recognized the city of Barcelona as the “Best destination for meetings and conferences of 2017“, after obtaining them in 2014 and 2015. However, last year the prize was won by Paris , being in third position behind Vienna in cities with the largest names of international congresses. With a total of 196 meetings in the city of love, Paris, 186 in Vienna and 181 in Barcelona.
These awards are considered the Oscar of the travel industry, hotels and civil aviation.
The forecasts for this year are similar, since there are 91 congresses confirmed between the month of October and the end of the year, which will gather about 80,000 delegates, confirms Turismo de Barcelona.
As is well known, the tourism of meetings or businesses is the segment that generates a greater impact than other sectors. As a result, tourism in Barcelona leaves around € 1,500 million a year in direct economic income.
A PROGRAM FOR TOURISM
With the aim of promoting the city and its demarcation as a destination for congresses and conventions, the Barcelona Convention Bureau (BCB), a specialized tourism program in Barcelona, was created in 1983 to achieve these objectives. It was a pioneer in the Spanish State in the development of this tourist segment.
The BCB offers tailor-made, free and impartial advice to professionals interested in organizing a meeting in the capital of Catalonia.
Some of the outstanding congresses are those of doctors, as they help to promote the city as a business destination.
